Get Real with Colored Pencil - A 4-Week Intensive

This class is for All Skill Levels.

In this 4 session intensive I want to take you beyond coloring books and delve into realistic colored pencil techniques to create this beautiful Snow Leopard. We will be working on Grafix Double-sided Matte Drafting Film. This film is archival and will let you see results faster so you won’t get frustrated or bored.  I will teach you some quick techniques that will let you create soft touchable looking fur and how to use both sides of the film to get those darks dark enough and your highlights glowing (even over darker layers).

We will build numerous layers to create realistic textures and 3-dimensional forms. We will create a soft blurry background so our Snow Leopard looks like it is ready to come off the page!

I will also share with you other techniques that can be used on different surfaces, why using more than one brand and type of pencil can improve your artwork, the differences and similarities between wax-based and oil-based pencils and how to use them together, different blending techniques, when and how to seal your artwork, and much more.

Other Materials you will need:

- Sharpener (Recommend 3 hole or manual crank)

- Craft Knife (Xacto or Excel - #1 blade)

- Embossing tool or EMPTY fine pt. ball point pen

- 2H Graphite pencil

- Tombow Mono Eraser (pen style)

- Kneaded Eraser

- 2-4 Blending Stumps (Medium & Small) *not tortillions

- Smooth drawing board

- 9” x 12” Sheet Grafix Drafting Film

- 9” x 12” sheet tracing paper or glassine (can be larger)

- Soft brush or drafting brush (I prefer a large mop brush or Hake brush).

- Cason Mi Tientes paper (color will be decided in class)
