SUPPLY LIST
All Rogue Classical Atelier Art Classes will need the following items
*New students will only need this top section first. Color Projects happen later.

- 8.5 x 11, or 9 x 12 Ringed Sketchbook
- 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B and 6B pencils (or drawing set that includes these)
- Double ended blending stumps, small and medium sizes.
- Charcoal pencils & a white pastel pencil (Some sets include graphite and charcoal pencils)
- Grayscale Value Finder
- White polymer eraser and 2.33 monozero mechanical eraser, a variety of other erasers can be nice as well.
- 14x21 - 19x25 (Roughly) Portfolio bag for transporting projects safely. Rigid bags without other supplies protect projects best. Central Arts has an awesome inexpensive felt like portfolio - it's called "Portfolio Midtown Bag". The smaller size is great for non program students. Students without these bags often have their projects lost, either in the studio, at home or in transit. We no longer have a system of project storage in our studios because of the Zoom option, which is sometimes unexpected due to illness etc.
- A Gator or Masonite board cut to be a bit smaller than bag. 1/4in Gator boards could be bought at Central Arts (Atelier students need 2 boards, 18x24 to go in the large Midtown bag)

The Following Supplies needed March thru August, Great Christmas Gift Ideas:
Only needed once a couple of charcoal projects have been completed, later in the summer for beginning students.

- Pastel Set (Soft)- any sets at CAS are good. Please purchase a warm/dark pastel, bought as a single. CAS has notes behind the counter on this. The small Myungo set is excellent (Pastels required, colored pencils optional)
- Prismacolor or better quality Colored Pencil Set - a set of at least 24 pencils, please be sure they aren't Prismacolor Verithins?. There are other brands better than Prismacolor, but many with inferior quality that present real difficulty. Any set at Central Arts Supply is quality.
- 14x17 Strathmore Heavyweight Drawing Pad *If you would like to avoid buying the 14x17 drawing pad please speak with me. I can provide the paper taped to a board whenever we do a life drawing at the easels - the only drawback would be that the students? drawings would not all be contained and protected in the pad, which can be handy to store drawings and fun to see progress, especially for program students.
- Advanced Teens and Adults - Please consider buying this excellent book: Lessons in Masterful Portrait Drawing, A Classical Approach to Drawing the Head by Mau-Kun Yim and Iris Yim

Advanced Art College Certificate Program Supply List:
Please see bottom for supply timeline

- 14x17 Drawing Pad- Strathmore series 400, heavyweight, medium surface, only needed in Fall for life drawing, can wait to purchase until then
- Periodically Program Students contribute to studio paint, usable in Charity's private studio. We buy in bulk which is very cost effective.
- Students are required to have their own painting supplies for at home work, work over Zoom and when something may run out.
- The studio does not purchase the following so you will definitely need these: Luminous Orange (Aqua Duo), transparent oxide brown, (students might consider purchasing a fast drying white for paintings w/ deadlines.)
- Additional paints for painting at home etc that sometimes run out: White, Cadmium or permanent red, Alizarin Crimson, Ivory Black, Ultramarine, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Viridian
- Students should also have their own mediums: Eco House citrus thinner, Liquin and or walnut oil alkyd, citrus turpenoid for brush cleaning
- Canvases, the best being Centurion oil primed linen. Jerry's Artarama carries it, Central Art Supply may at some point as well.
- Custom cut gator boards for canvas/linen backing
- Acid Free Spray Adhesive
- Gamblin Gloss varnish
- Students need brushes, 1/2in flats and a variety of sizes shapes, including a small brush for signatures.
- Required book: Masterful Portrait Drawing by Mau-Kun Yim and Iris Yim
- Graduates of the full 4 year program need to have read Richard Schmid's "Alla Prima II, All I know about Painting". Owning one's own copy will be the best way to do this and will be a treasured gift to yourself to last a lifetime.
- Stacks of ringed 9x12 or 8.5x11 sketchbooks

Painting Schedule/Timeline for needed supplies: Part time 1st year students will get into a little wipe out work towards spring or about 6 months into the program. They can delay purchase of paint and mediums until their 2nd year, but will need the canvas/linen and brushes.

Full time or higher students will need all limited palette colors and the mediums as well, about 3-6 months into year 1. Limited palette colors highlighted above. The rest can wait until year 2.

* Central Art Supply offers a 10% discount for all students as well as awesome coupons if you get on their mailing list. They also keep my supply lists behind the counter.
