Instructor Name:
Lara Strazdas
Instructor Bio:
Lara Strazdas is a wildlife/nature conservation artist, pet portrait artist and art instructor. A native Oregonian, she lives in the lovely historic town of Jacksonville in the house she grew up in, with her husband of 22 years and their dog Jaz.

Her greatest passions in life have always been animals and art. She combines these two passions to create life-like wildlife and pet portraits. Her style is realism, but each work of art is done in her unique style and with a passion and knowledge of her subjects. She works in several mediums on a variety of surfaces.

Lara is self-taught; learning animal anatomy through her education, she has spent much of her life observing wildlife and having pets her entire life. She went to university with the intent to become a veterinarian specializing in wildlife care. Her studies included several courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, ecology, and zoology. She has over 20 years of hands-on experience working for veterinarians, on ranches, the Oregon State University School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as wildlife rehab centers and animal parks.

Lara strives to promote conservation awareness with her art and hopes to inspire others to see and feel the connection between all species and the awareness that we don?t just live on our planet, we live with our planet. She supports several wildlife and conservation organizations and projects, both local and abroad.

She enjoys sharing her knowledge of animals and the art techniques she has learned over the years, hoping to help encourage the creative spark in others who want to learn how to improve their skills, learn a new medium, or just need an excuse to find time in their life to create.
