Day 1 - Intro to Lettering
In the first session, we will cover:
- Letter sizing, spacing
- Understanding Roman alphabet and serifs
- Block letter gothic - san serifs
- Blackletter - textura
- Spencerian script
- Shading and 3d -perspective
- Convex lettering
- Layout examples
Day 2 - Practical Application
I'll let the individual choose what they'd like to create, basically putting what we learned the day before into a piece of art they can enjoy. Students will be given an explanation of layout and lettering choice ideas and how to choose most practical font.

- pencil ( 1 HB)

- 12" ruler
- paper / sketchbook
- foam chisel tip brush (1")
- (1) da vinci 1111 sign painter brush (10, 12 or 14)

- stabilo ( 1 black, 1 white)
- foam core board

Anthony Vella
Instructor Bio:
Anthony Vella is a freelance artist specializing in lettering across all mediums. Starting with graffiti in 2003, he moved from that art form into oil painting on canvas, and fell in love with doing "wildstyle" 3-D graffiti on canvas.
Anthony completed an intensive sign painting course in 2018 with Doc Guthrie at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, ranging from basics to advanced skills completing professionally hand-painted signs for businesses.
Since then he has painted several signs for tattoo shops and small businesses, including windows, sandwich boards, murals, and much more.
After completing classes at LATTC, Anthony has continued studies in Madaraz, Zanarian, Spencerian, Business and Ornamental calligraphy through the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH).
Anthony is a self-described sign painter, calligrapher, and muralist.
