"Surfaces 101" – Lara Strazdas

Workshop Description:

Why a workshop on surfaces? It’s pretty straightforward, isn’t it?  Paint goes on canvas, colored pencils go on paper, watercolors go on watercolor paper, etc. Well, what if I told you, you can paint acrylics ON feathers? Or you can use colored pencils on metal? Or that watercolors can go on plastic? With the right preparation (and a little imagination), just about any medium can go on just about any surface.

In this workshop we will look at the possibilities that open up when we go beyond the traditional medium and surface combinations. We will learn how to prepare a variety of surfaces for mediums you might not think would go together and we will even try a few out. We will also talk about which surfaces work best for which mediums. If you have been wondering if you can use your favorite medium on a different surface, this is the workshop for you! Hopefully you will go home inspired to try your favorite mediums on new surfaces or your favorite surfaces with new mediums!
