Deb Van Poolen will use her decades of experience making landscape paintings on site (aka "plein air painting") to lead students in basic, easy-to-follow steps towards making landscape compositions and watercolor paintings. Students in this class will be guided to use a tool called "the viewfinder" for transferring three-dimensional scenes onto two-dimensional surfaces.
Deb will teach students how to apply basic rules of composition to their landscape drawings in order to make simple paintings that are pleasing to the eye. Students will also learn introductory techniques in watercolor painting as part of this course. When weather permits, students will travel to nearby outdoor settings for inspiration, either within blocks of Central Art or a couple of miles away.

Instructor Deb will speak in more detail about supplies on the first day of class. It is fine if students wait until after the first day of class to purchase their supplies. Deb does not want the cost of supplies to be prohibitive to anyone taking this course. Thus, necessary adjustments can be made to the supplies list if needed.
