In this workshop, artists will:


• develop strong compositional skills

• understand the importance of value to create depth

• learn when and how to use color effectively

• incorporate design elements into their backgrounds

• merge realistic images with abstraction

• use intuition to guide the direction of their work

• draw inspiration from the world around them

• work on multiple paintings to create a series of new work

• create paintings that communicate a particular mood or theme

• break down complex images into simple shapes


How many times has someone said you need to perfect your drawing skills in order to be a good painter? In this workshop, we will take away that pressure and give you the freedom to create art that is both intuitive and fun! If you want to incorporate realism into your work and still stay loose, let’s talk about how we can simplify a subject and still get the idea across. Participants will experiment with different materials and learn to incorporate them into their work to achieve flow and mood.

Beginner to Advanced artists welcome.



MATERIALS


- Minimum 4 canvas panels, all the same size (8x8 minimum)

- Gel medium

- 1” chip brush

- Variety of different sized brushes

- Value finder

- Workable fixative spray

- Several different thin patterned papers (tissue paper, cutouts from magazines, scrapbook paper,
newspaper, torn scraps of whatever you can find of interest, etc.)

- Misc. mark making tools, i.e. stamps, scrapers,

- Images you might want to incorporate into your paintings

- Paper towels

- Container for water


Medium suggestions:

- Pastels, charcoal, pencils, or any other drawing mediums you choose

- Acrylic and/or oil paint in whatever colors you like (note: if you will be using oil paint, it will be used at the very end of your project due to the extended drying time needed)
