In this 2-day workshop we will be taking a in-depth look into portrait drawing and painting. We will begin with the foundational basics of portrait drawing and finish with a fully-rendered, color painting in pastel, acrylic, or oil.
Subjects to be covered…

Proportion and construction of the head from any angle

Working from memory, references, and live models

Light logic and value structure

Tonal drawing using structure and block-ins

Edge control (hard, soft, lost, found)

Breaking down the features of the face

Limited and full palette colors for developing luminous flesh tones

Model setup and backgrounds
Day 1 will focus on drawing. Day 2 will focus on painting. Open to all skill levels. Beginners welcome. 10-5pm, with an hour for lunch
Limited to 8 students. $150, includes handouts and sample references
Inquire at the front desk for a list of supplies or pre-packaged drawing kit. Bring several portrait references of your choice in both color and black and white.
Note: when choosing references, make sure certain shadow and light areas are not blown out and the light source comes from the left or right side of the subject.
