In this fun and exciting workshop, we will create textured backgrounds for paintings. We will then, using the watermedia of your choice, work to turn these into unique, successfully finished pieces. Being visually active, textured paintings feel dynamic and have a sense of depth and vibrance. Textures also help viewers emotionally connect with your work.
This class is appropriate for all levels. We will create at least 6 textured starts, and you can expect to leave with 2-4 finished paintings.
Note: if you have already taken our Watermedia Textures Class, we encourage you to take it again. We will be sure that you are exposed to new texturing techniques and materials.
See Pam's website for additional details and examples of the types of paintings we will create in this class. You can also feel free to email Pam with any questions for more information.
MATERIALS
We will provide the texturing mediums and materials, applicators, one pre-textured surface, and various additional materials. You bring:
- 6 (or more) surfaces of your choice. Watercolor paper (any weight), canvas, and pre-gessoed boards (like Gessobord, Claybord, or create your own) all work well. Size is up to you, but we suggest you work 11" x 14" or larger.
- Watermedia paints of your choice. Acrylics (fluid or regular), acrylic inks, gouache, and watercolor all work well. Bring colors of your choice, but we suggest a yellow, a red, two blues (one light and one dark) as a minimum. Email us for color suggestions.
- Brushes you like to use. A large soft mop-type brush is useful if you have one.
- A spray bottle, palette, and water container (larger is better). An apron and rags or paper towels.
- Optional: texturing materials like stencils, stamps, wine corks, sponges, papers with raised surfaces, etc. We will have a large assortment for you to use as well.
