Time: 10am-4:30pm with a half hour break for lunch (1pm - 1:30pm)

"Expressive Landscapes in Pastel"
This workshop is about translating your emotions to the paper and communicating them to the viewer through the expressive medium of pastels. With three different kinds of landscapes as our subjects, we'll explore approaches, materials and techniques that help us express what we feel when we experience the wonder of Nature in a particular place and time.
Day 1 will cover Forest Interior, Day 2 Flowing water, and Day 3 Mountain Scenery.
MATERIALS
Pastels
- Soft (Jack Richeson, Sennelier, Great American, Terry Ludwig, Mount Vision)
- Semi-hard (Rembrandt, Faber-Castell, Mungyo)
- Hard (NuPastel)
Optional
- Pastel Pencils, Charcoal Pencil (General’s 6B)
Papers
- Unsanded: Hahnemuhle Collection Sketch, Hahnemuhle Ingres, Canson Mi-Tientes, Fabriano Vice Versa, Strathmore Artagain Black (11”x14” or 8”x10”)
- Sanded: UART 400 Dark, Canson Mi-Tientes Touch, Art Spectrum Colourfix, Pastel Premier (11”x14” or 8”x10”)
Other tools
- Eraser (not kneaded): Prismacolor Magic Eraser or Alvin Synthetic
- Stiff Bristle Brush
- Paper Towels
- An old sock with a hole in it

| Instructor Bio: | Mark Ivan Cole is an avid artist and adventurer. His pastel paintings currently focus on emotional landscapes based on and inspired by his explorations. He also enjoys creating entirely from imagination. When not painting or drawing, he can be found composing and recording music, and writing fiction, poetry and prose. |
